The first episode of the Mahabharat series sets the stage for the epic battle between good and evil. Titled "The Birth of Shantanu and the Rajasuya Yajna," this episode introduces the main characters and their motivations. The story begins with the legendary sage, Vyasa, who is asked by Lord Ganesha to narrate the epic to the world.
The episode takes us back to the early days of the Kuru dynasty, where we meet King Shantanu, a just and fair ruler, and his queen, Ganga. The couple's happiness is short-lived, as Ganga leaves Shantanu due to a curse. Shantanu then marries Satyavati, a fisherman's daughter, and has two sons, Vichitravirya and Ambika.
As the story unfolds, we are introduced to the gods and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon, including Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and the goddess Durga. The episode culminates with the Rajasuya Yajna, a grand sacrifice performed by King Yudhishthira, the eldest Pandava brother, to establish his dominance over the kingdom.
