Season 1 - Episode 3 — Euphoria

Episode 3 paints a sympathetic, albeit tragic, picture of Jules’s motivation. It isn't just about rebellion; it's about validation. In her online interactions (under the handle "ShyGirl"), she finds a sense of control that she lacks in her real life. However, the tension peaks when the reality of the situation begins to close in. Cal’s desperation to maintain his suburban idyll contrasts sharply with Jules’s chaotic freedom, creating a powder keg that the audience knows is destined to explode. If "Made You Look" belongs to anyone, it might actually belong to Kat Hernandez (Barbie Ferreira). Up to this point, Kat has been a background character defined by her insecurity and her desire to be accepted. Episode 3 is her origin story.

This theme is most palpably explored through the evolving relationship between Rue (Zendaya) and Jules (Hunter Schafer). After the intensity of the motel encounter in the previous episode, the dynamic has shifted. Rue is falling deeper, her addiction feeding off the high of Jules's affection, while Jules is exploring the complexities of her own identity. Euphoria Season 1 - Episode 3

Directed by Augustine Frizzell and written by series creator Sam Levinson, "Made You Look" is perhaps the most underrated episode of the first season. The episode’s title, "Made You Look," serves as a thesis statement for the hour. In the age of social media, looking is an act of power. Who looks at whom? Who controls the image? And what happens when the image shatters the reality? Episode 3 paints a sympathetic, albeit tragic, picture
