Are LLMs following the correct reasoning paths?

University of California, Davis University of Pennsylvania   ▶ University of Southern California

We propose a novel probing method and benchmark called EUREQA. EUREQA is an entity-searching task where a model finds a missing entity based on described multi-hop relations with other entities. These deliberately designed multi-hop relations create deceptive semantic associations, and models must stick to the correct reasoning path instead of incorrect shortcuts to find the correct answer. Experiments show that existing LLMs cannot follow correct reasoning paths and resist the attempt of greedy shortcuts. Analyses provide further evidence that LLMs rely on semantic biases to solve the task instead of proper reasoning, questioning the validity and generalizability of current LLMs’ high performances.

LLMs make errors when correct surface-level semantic cues-entities are recursively replaced with descriptions, and the errors are likely related to token similarity. GPT-3.5-turbo is used for this example.

In EUREQA, every question is constructed through an implicit reasoning chain. The chain is constructed by parsing DBPedia. Each layer comprises three components: an entity, a fact about the entity, and a relation between the entity and its counterpart from the next layer. The layers stack up to create chains with different depths of reasoning. We verbalize reasoning chains into natural sentences and anonymize the entity of each layer to create the question. Questions can be solved layer by layer and each layer is guaranteed a unique answer. EUREQA is not a knowledge game: we adopt a knowledge filtering process that ensures that most LLMs have sufficient world knowledge to answer our questions.
EUREQA comprises a total of 2,991 questions of different reasoning depths and difficulties. The entities encompass a broad spectrum of topics, effectively reducing any potential bias arising from specific entity categories. These data are great for analyzing the reasoning processes of LLMs

Here we present the accuracy of ChatGPT, Gemini-Pro and GPT-4 on the hard set of EUREQA across different depths d of reasoning (number of layers in the questions). We evaluate two prompt strategies: direct zero-shot prompt and ICL with two examples. In general, with the entities recursively substituted by the descriptions of reasoning chaining layers, and therefore eliminating surface-level semantic cues, these models generate more incorrect answers. When the reasoning depth increases from one to five on hard questions, there is a notable decline in performance for all models. This finding underscores the significant impact that semantic shortcuts have on the accuracy of responses, and it also indicates that GPT-4 is considerably more capable of identifying and taking advantage of these shortcuts.

Datafilehost Free ((new)) Upload

Datafilehost has carved out a specific niche in the file-sharing ecosystem. It strips away the complexity of modern cloud storage, returning to the core utility of the internet: moving data from point A to point B efficiently. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the ins and outs of using Datafilehost for free uploading, how it compares to the competition, and best practices for security and speed. Datafilehost is a cloud-based file hosting service that prioritizes speed and simplicity. Unlike Google Drive or Dropbox, which act as synchronized ecosystems for long-term storage and collaboration, Datafilehost is designed as a transfer utility. It is built for the user who has a file that is too large for email and needs a link to share it immediately.

The platform is renowned for its capability, which allows users to host files without creating an account or paying a recurring fee. It is a utilitarian tool designed to solve a specific problem: "How do I send this large file quickly?" Why Choose Datafilehost for Free Uploads? While there are dozens of file hosts on the web, Datafilehost maintains a loyal user base. Here is why the platform remains a top choice for free file uploading: 1. No Mandatory Registration One of the biggest hurdles with modern software is the requirement to sign up. Users are often fatigued by creating countless accounts, verifying emails, and managing passwords. Datafilehost removes this friction. The core Datafilehost Free Upload feature operates on a "guest upload" basis. You land on the page, select your file, and hit upload. There is no need to hand over personal data just to share a zip file. 2. High-Speed Performance Datafilehost is optimized for speed. Many free file hosts throttle bandwidth, resulting in painfully slow upload and download speeds. Datafilehost utilizes robust server infrastructure to ensure that your upload process is swift, and perhaps more importantly, that the recipient can download the file without waiting hours. 3. Generous File Size Limits Email servers typically cap attachments at 20MB to 25MB. This is insufficient for modern use cases like 4K video clips, software installers, or high-resolution image archives. The free upload service on Datafilehost supports significantly larger files, making it an ideal solution for moving heavy data that email cannot handle. 4. Direct Download Links A significant annoyance with many free hosts is the "waiting room" experience—pages filled with advertisements, countdown timers, and confusing "Download" buttons that actually lead to malware. Datafilehost is famous for providing clean, direct download links. When you share a link generated by a Datafilehost Free Upload, the recipient usually gets a straightforward interface to retrieve their data without jumping through hoops. Step-by-Step Guide: How to Use Datafilehost Free Upload The process of uploading a file to Datafilehost is intuitive, but understanding the specific features can help you get the most out of the service. Click the "Browse" or "Select File" button. Navigate through your local storage to find the file you wish to upload. Whether it is a .zip , .exe , .mp4 , or .pdf , the platform supports a wide array of file extensions. Datafilehost has carved out a specific niche in

In an era dominated by cloud storage giants requiring subscriptions, logins, and complex software installations, the need for simple, no-frills file sharing remains stronger than ever. Whether you are a developer needing to share a beta version of an app, a student transferring a large project, or a professional sending high-resolution media, the barrier to entry should be low. This is where Datafilehost Free Upload services shine. Datafilehost is a cloud-based file hosting service that
